The Food Equity Initiative (FEI) was created and as part of UNC Asheville’s Healthy Campus Initiative and founded by a grant from the Walnut Cove Members Association. The FEI is run by dedicated and passionate students who are committed to food justice and who believe that access to healthy, nutritious food is a human right.
Our Mission
The Food Equity Initiative is an organization dedicated to eliminating food insecurity within the UNC Asheville community, with a focus on health, sustainability and resilience. We do this by sourcing and distributing food donations, as well as offering information, events, programs and resources that promote food justice, good nutrition, and community engagement. For more information on current events and activities, check out our Programs and Services section.
We also collaborate with local organizations and charities in order to engage with the larger community, increase our access to resources to better serve the UNC Asheville population, and gain insight into techniques that we can learn from and implement to better serve our clientele. If you or your organization would like to get involved or collaborate with the Food Equity Initiative or its activities, please contact us at foodequity@unca.edu.
